Introduction
There are 9 Araschnia species, all of which are restricted to the Palaearctic region. The commonest and most widespread is levana, which can be found in central Europe and across most of temperate and sub-arctic Asia.
Araschnia prorsoides is found in north India, Burma and western China.

Lifecycle
The larvae of prorsoides and all other Araschnia species feed on nettles Urtica ( Urticaceae ).
